Sold Every year we plant seedlings either in the nursery beds or in the field. They get initially wired at year 2 and pruned as the years pass. Each Spring we dig the best candidates. This Chinese Elm was one nice surprise! 15" tall and 1 3/4" at the buttress. Great movement and branching! The tree has taken so well to pot culture I had to hard prune and found back-budding everywhere. Shown here right after the pruning. I'll post another picture in a couple weeks when it pushes new growth.

New This old, large Chinese Elm stands 26" tall and is 4" at the buttress. When it first arrived at our nursery it lacked vigor and had really gotten leggy. The previous owner became less interested in this tree and the lack of attention was evident We repotted it immediately, lightly pruned and fertilized to encourage back-budding. It worked. This tree is full of buds and shoots and the branches can be chased back this growing season.

Never wanting to misrepresent material, here's a shot of some cool roots, but several garish pruning scars. Were I keeping this tree I would get out my carving tools and hollow this trunk eliminating the scars and giving the lower trunk more taper. The carving would also add years of implied age.

An alternate view to help you see the future rebirth of this tree. Old, larger material like this is hard to come by. This natural style tree could be back to shape in just a seasons. I always love a carving project!

New Every Fall Lily and I seek end of season nursery sales looking for single trunk Yews. They are hard to find, but if you put them in the ground and ignore them for a couple years, they truck up quickly. At year three you chop hard and make initial branch selections. Once again, ignore for two years and when you dig it you just might have something sweet. That's the history of this common Yew. 18" tall with a very interesting buttress and nebari. I found a rock to compliment the crazy root that normally I would have cut off. The new foliage is still hardening off but in a few weeks styling and wiring will be the next step. There's also a nice carving project here.
$150 plus packing and shipping. If this doesn't move, I'm going to work it and the price will go up!
