Sales Gallery of Trees

At Sanctuary Bonsai we collect and grow Bonsai and Pre-Bonsai. We collect from nature and from other growers and Bonsai Artists. Some of the trees offered here were created by other artists, some were field grown or collected here in Connecticut.

There are many offerings from raw material to trees almost ready for ceramic containers. No tree will be sold if it is not in the peak of health. We will be happy to share the most current information about each tree including it's origin, repotting schedule, and growing preferences.

To not further the free money tree that is Visa and MasterCard, Sanctuary Bonsai accepts checks. A bank check will ship your selection within 48 hours. A personal check will ship your tree in 7 business days. All trees ship UPS unless oversized, then Fed-ex or via Truck. All shipping charges are at cost. Packing charges are by the hour and partial hour at $25.00 per hour.

In a former life I was a Packaging Engineer and can easily pack any tree for proper transit.

If you have questions regarding any of these trees or would like to place an order, please call Todd at 860-849-2323 or email to Promo1@conversent.net . You may fax to 860-282-1692. I will be happy to provide additional photos when requested or answer any questions you have.

If you're local or planning a trip to our area please plan to stop by. Our garden is beautiful. There are many more trees available than are shown on the website. There are also many more great trees in the Sanctuary Bonsai Collection for your enjoyment. We hope to hear from you or welcome you at our entry gate.

This Larch was collected 2 years ago in a bog near the Canadian border. It was repotted into a Mica pot this year after we acquired it.
The roots were well developed and the tree has over wintered two seasons successfully in pot culture. Larch prefer to freeze solid in Winter, so no Southern inquiries please. This tree needs ice cold Winters and I would consider CT to be the most southern point it will survive.
A very old tree in peak vigor. There are several sweet trees inside including a "seven" tree as well as a Literati. Very nice Larch. $300 plus packing and shipping.

New This clump style Ficus salicifolia, Willow Leaf Ficus, was a demonstration tree I did for the Hartford Club in 2003. The main tree was a purchase with the 4 smaller trees being made from cuttings. The idea was to fuse the bases together into one plant. That has occurred and rather nicely. The ceramic container measures 16" side to side. This tree delights in defoliation which has lead to the wonderful ramification seen here.
$225 plus packing and shipping.

This Willow Leaf Ficus was a stump I shipped home from a Florida business trip in 2003. It was a double trunk and first I air-layered the tops off. The tree developed hundreds of buds which required a tweezer to sort out. This tree has been wired and unwired every year and has developed into a very nice Ficus. Nick Lenz pot. Southerners, please inquire! This tree would love to live in the South again!

The tree after the air-layering in 2004.

Close up of the buttress and Nick Lenz pot. Notice the delicate purple glaze highlights. $500 plus packing and shipping.

Here is the tree as exhibited at the 2009 Greater Hartford Bonsai Society Annual Exhibition.

New This trunky Bald Cypress was collected in Mississippi in Feb of 09. It grew aggressively and the tapering cut was made this summer. The leader and upper heavy branch were left to grow aggressively to thicken the trunk above the cut. The smaller, angled top cut was made by a Beaver. Notice the small bulges running up the trunk. These are the future flutes. Plant this tree back into the ground and they will develop much more quickly. The tapering cut will also heal over quicker. A tree with promise and a project for fun.
$250 plus packing and shipping.

The Japanese Black Pine was grown from a seedling planted in 2000. It's the strongest grower of the group and stands 38" tall above the soil line. The powerful buttress and nebari are undeniable. The tree offers several styles from semi-cascade to informal upright and plenty of material for jins and sharis. A fine Japanese Black Pine pre-bonsai. $800 plus packing and shipping.

Close-up of trunk and nebari. Please notice the old looking, rough bark.

For the last two seasons, this Pine had the oldest needles plucked off each Fall. As a result, the interior of the tree is filled with buds.

This is updated photo taken this Fall 2009 before late season needle plucking.

We have not pushed the branches back, only encouraged massive back budding inside the tree. This tree is a great project and we decided to leave it for someone. All efforts have been toward back budding and vigor.

We had a tree critique event here late Summer and the group discussed this tree for over an hour!
